Leave Me Alone is an adorable children’s book about Bigsby the Snowman. Bigsby lives in a field and encounters lots of different forest critters throughout his days. Unfortunately, Bigsby feels very alone. Can you figure out why? And what can the forest critters do to help Bigsby?
The illustrations in ‘Leave Me Alone’ by Shelli Johnson are so detailed and beautiful and your child is sure to love looking at every single page. The book takes us through several days and interactions through the eyes of Bigsby the Snowman. He sees everyone around him having fun and making friends but he feels left out. It doesn’t seem to Bigsby that the forest animals care that he is there. He feels that they are just using him for his belongings and decorations. Bigsby just keeps telling everyone to leave him alone.
As we journey through this book, we realize that Bigsby actually does not want to be left alone. He really wants to make friends but doesn’t know how to express that. Bigsby seems afraid to ask for what he needs emotionally and therefore just pushes everyone away.
At the end of this book, you will see Bigsby’s beautiful transformation and will see him find his voice! When he is able to communicate with the forest creatures, he finds that they are very receptive and want to be his friend as well! This book tells a great story of friendship and bravery. It also teaches kids that it is important to express how we are feeling and not keep it bottled up like Bigsby did for so long. I believe that children will feel inspired by Bigsby and his ability to make new friends and will take that lesson into their lives as well!
