There are so many ways for you and your family to stay healthy although it is not always easy to maintain that lifestyle everyday at every moment. There are going to come times when you are only going to have certain options available to you, and you are going to have to make food choices that aren’t always the most healthy.

We also have habits that aren’t necessarily the best, and although some of us can stop them cold turkey, others may need some time and alternatives to wean off of certain vices.

Here is a list of foods to try and incorporate into all of your meals, and some vice alternatives that may help you kick your bad habits for good.

This is a list of foods that you should try and incorporate into your diet even if the rest of the meal is not so healthy. These few items are easy to find, some are easy to carry around with you for a snack, and others may be found in places like a roadside truck stop or a diner. Commit this list to memory so that no matter where you are, you can have a healthy meal even if you are on the go away from home.

Spinach is a high provider of iron. It has zero fat and it is also a high provider of Vitamin K, Vitamin A, and Vitamin C. Spinach is good for brain health, your eyes, and your blood pressure. Dark leafy greens like spinach all contain these amazing health benefits. If spinach is not your favorite, try greens like kale, arugula, Swiss chard, or mustard greens.

High in beta carotene, fiber, antioxidants, and Vitamin A, carrots are some of the best food for your eyes. The other health benefits of carrots are that they help aid you during weight loss. The antioxidant power behind carrots helps you fight off deadly diseases like cancer.

Nuts are packed with protein and fiber. The fiber helps keep you regular while the protein is exactly what you need for working out. Nuts have also been proven to reduce a person’s risk of many kinds of cardiovascular disease. They are easy to carry around and come in various types. The most popular and healthy are almonds, cashews, walnuts, and peanuts.

Greek Yogurt

The health benefits of Greek yogurt outweigh the benefits of other yogurts. The amount of probiotics alone helps aid your digestion and helps keep bad bacteria out of your gastrointestinal tract. Greek yogurt is also packed with a lot of protein that helps build muscle while you are working out and help maintain your stamina. The calcium in Greek yogurt also helps keep your bones healthy and strong.

Chock full of Omega-3 fatty acids, salmon is great for the health of your heart keeping it pumping and its parts clean. Salmon is also a good source of protein for exercising. For men and for women, salmon does wonders for your hair and skin, keeping your skin glowing and bright while helping your hair grow healthy and strong.

Oatmeal in the exercise guru’s staple meal. The health benefits of oats and oatmeal are amazing. The body breaks oats down slowly giving you stamina while you work out and an even amount of energy while you are at the gym or going on long distance runs. Oats are also a high source of fiber that helps keep you regular and clean when using the bathroom.

Tomatoes in any form, even ketchup, should be incorporated into your daily diet. Tomatoes are the best source of lycopene. Lycopene is what makes red fruit red. It is an antioxidant that prevents cancer. More than that, lycopene is also great for your heart and it even helps your body remain protected from the sun.

Another great source of antioxidants is blueberries. With most berries, the antioxidant power helps prevent certain cancers and keeps your cells healthy and clean. Blueberries are also considered an anti-aging agent that helps reduce the risk of DNA damage, which helps keep you looking young and fresh. They help reduce cholesterol and lower blood pressure.

We all have some vices that are hard to kick and smoking is one of them. One of the best ways to start weaning yourself off of cigarettes is to try a tobacco vape. Vapes are not the healthiest alternative, but they are a good start to stepping away from the product all together. It is widely known that excessive tobacco use can cause cancers throughout the body as well as damage vital organs. Vaping reduces those risks while also helping you to quit.

Vapes come in a variety of flavors, and most people find that it is the oral satisfaction of cigarettes that is so enticing. If you have a tobacco-less vape, you can satisfy your oral fixation without ingesting the harmful chemicals of cigarettes.

Chewing Gum

Chewing gum has long been a tool in quitting smoking. Like the vape, chewing gum keeps your mouth moving and helps satisfy your need for oral movement. Chewing can easily be carried around with you and with a sugarless variety, you can also keep your mouth and teeth safe from the harmful effects of sugar.

Some people need to renegotiate their relationship with alcohol. Not that you have a drinking problem, but you may want a healthy alternative when enjoying cocktails with friends. Drinking clear liquors with club soda or water reduces sugar and carb intake and may prevent you from having a hangover. Non-alcoholic options are available if you simply want the taste of a drink or a beer, but want to interact the same as your friends who are drinking. Flavored seltzers or flavored hard seltzers are also a lighter alternative when enjoying time with friends. Stay away from dark liquors as they contain more sugar which is unhealthy and may cause you to dehydrate faster and have a bigger hangover.
